The melodies which comprise this Suite illustrate the natural relationship among folk song subjects, melodies and structures. “Liza Jane” is the inspiration for this medley. Her antics can be found in a wide variety of sources, texts and melodies, and are claimed by many states. The formal structure of this version exhibits rhythmic and melodic motives which easily unite it both musically and historically with the other songs in the medley. Each of the songs lends itself to costuming, staging and/or authentic portrayal of the play-party games which traditionally accompany their renditions.
